Lead-Free Brass – AquaNordic®

Nordic Brass Gusum has developed a production method for lead-free brass, AquaNordic®.

Using this method, the bar alloys CW510L AquaNordic® and CW511L AquaNordic® (DZR), as well as the ingot alloy CB771S AquaNordic®, are manufactured. The alloys are lead-free and offer high machinability at the same level as brass with higher lead content. All alloys meet regulatory requirements and are fully recyclable.

AquaNordic® – an Alloy at the Forefront

The Nordic region, the EU, and the USA have different regulatory requirements regarding lead‑free brass in products that come into contact with drinking water. The general trend is that authorities, companies, and private consumers increasingly demand lead‑free materials. Therefore, Nordic Brass Gusum’s lead‑free and environmentally friendly brass is perfectly in line with current market expectations.

Today, all alloys are included on the 4MS list, and the alloys CW510L AquaNordic® and CB771S AquaNordic® are already part of the European positive list (EUPL).

Products made from CW511L AquaNordic® can already receive type approval, and the alloy will be added to the EUPL during 2027.

Lead-Free and Easy to Machine

Since 2006, Nordic Brass Gusum has conducted research into alternatives to lead‑containing brass alloys, resulting in the advanced, in‑house developed production method AquaNordic®. The alloys are lead‑free, cost‑effective, and easy to machine, while fully complying with all regulatory requirements.

There are other lead‑free alloys on the market that are not as cost‑efficient. Through extensive research, Nordic Brass Gusum has succeeded in developing a material that is fully compatible with the existing recycling flow.

To recreate the machining properties of leaded brass, we add ceramic particles to achieve similar machinability to traditional brass. AquaNordic® is now used in several lead‑free products on the market, and the number continues to grow as the demand for lead‑free alternatives increases.

AquaNordic® is sustainable, environmentally friendly, and cost‑efficient. In addition, it meets all current regulatory requirements.
